Year 5 Barrier Games
In literacy this week we started our unit of work on ‘instructions’. To help us think about giving clear instructions we played some barrier games with a partner.
We had to think carefully about the language we used and also that our instructions made sense and were clear.
We played two games. In one, we had to build a model out of unifix cubes. As we were making the model we gave instructions to our partner so they could build it at the same time. We then removed the barrier to see how closely our models matched.
For the second game we used squared paper and colouring pencils. We drew a picture or pattern on the paper and gave instructions to our partner as we were doing it. Again we then removed the barrier to see how closely our pictures matched.
It was quite difficult at first to give instructions that made sense and we did have a laugh at some of the models and pictures and how different they were!
After a few attempts though, we all became better at giving clear instructions!
