Community: Sparklers Pre-School

Sparklers Pre-School is run independently to the school, although we are in the same building. Our group is led by staff and an elected parent committee. We are always eager to please, so do not hesitate to discuss any matters with us. Our contact telephone number is Tel: (01793) 875777.
At the Pre-School we aim to provide the children with a happy environment where they can learn through play.
Each child is unique and develops in their own way. Play with toys, painting, reading books and playing with other children stimulates their physical, social, intellectual and emotional development. No competitive play will be included in the group. All the activities at Sparklers Pre-School are intended to be stimulating and enjoyable whilst supporting children working towards the government’s Early Learning Goals for the Foundation Stage. Details of the curriculum can be found in the Welcome Pack at the bottom of this page.
Timings:
The pre-school morning starts at 9.15 a.m. with the children being signed in, then settled and left to play until the register is taken at about 9.30 a.m. Similarly, in the afternoon the session starts at 12.15 p.m. and once the children have settled, the register is taken at 12.30 p.m.
If any child has a problem settling, there are always staff on hand to help.
Each session follows the same format and we are sure your child will soon be accustomed to our routine.
A typical day:
After register the children have a choice of toys and activities to play with. During the session snack bar is prepared, the children can have their snack any time between 10.30 - 11.00 / 13.30 - 14.00. When the children have finished their snack we all tidy away the toys and sit quietly with a book for a few minutes. This is followed by either a story or show time. The children all enjoy bringing things in from home to show their friends and the staff (no more than two items per session please!). Show bags can be obtained from the staff members.
This is followed by a time when the children are given the opportunity to join in games and more structured play or weather permitting, outside play.
We finish the Pre-School session with songs and rhymes. The session finishes at 11.45 / 14.45.
Bright Sparks:
The Bright Sparks session opens from 12.15 to 14.45 on a Wednesday and/or a Friday (depending on number of children). We at Sparklers feel that all children entering school should be given the opportunity to attend Bright Sparks. The session is more structured and helps prepare them for their time at school.
We are in close contact with Peatmoor Community Primary School and we visit the classrooms, hall, and library and include work which will be familiar to your child when they start school.
All your child's work is kept in a folder, which can be taken home when your child finishes at Pre-School. You are, of course, welcome to come in after the session and view your child's work.
Parental participation:
As a small group, fund-raising and parent participation are an important part of the Pre-School. Parents are required to help with rotas and outings. The more parent participation, the happier the group.
Taking part in the parent helper rota means you get to see your child in a totally different environment than at home (unless you usually have 16 children around at once). It is nice to get to know the Pre-School staff a bit better and enables you to see exactly what happens during the session.
Most importantly, committee members are parents. If you are interested in becoming more involved as a committee member please ask the Supervisor or Chairperson for details
Session times / costs:
9.15 – 11.45 am / 12.15 – 2.45 pm
Cost: £3.70 per session, although Early Years Funding is available for most children
Max: 18 children per session
