Governors: What we do
Latest news: Staff and Governor Conference
This was held on Tuesday 17th April 08 between 6-8pm. All the staff and Governors came to work together to think about what we would like to achieve at Peatmoor over the next ten years. This becomes our ‘School Development Plan’
It was a very interesting and useful evening; everyone came with some good ideas. Look out in the newsletter in the coming weeks for some of the things that we have planned for the future years.
The Governing Body at Peatmoor Community Primary School has a very open and honest working relationship with the Headteacher (Fiona) and the leadership team (Mel and Bethan) to help deliver the vision that we have set ourselves and focus on realising the potential of every child. A key tool to deliver progress is the School Development Plan, which is agreed in consultation with all teaching and support staff. We monitor progress of pupils against national standards and our own school improvement targets plus there are also statutory duties to complete each year as required by the Department for Education and Skills.
The Governing Body is a friendly team of volunteers who have close contacts with the school and the local community. We meet regularly, six times a year (once each term), at Full Governing Body meetings where our meetings alternate between focusing on general business/statutory requirements and specific curriculum subjects/strategies to move the school forward.
We have devolved some responsibilities to four committees (staffing, curriculum, finance and premises) that are made up from a subset of Governors and these also meet six times a year.
Other activities include having a presence at parent’s evenings to listen and gain feedback on any issues relating to the school (either positive or negative). There is also a comments box for feedback at any other time and within the school there is a Governor’s Notice Board.
Finally, time permitting, we try to visit the school during school hours to observe lessons, talk to the pupils and generally experience life at Peatmoor!
