During April schools from across Swindon participated in a hockey festival which was organised by the Swindon Schools Partnership in conjunction with Swindon Hockey Club. This was to find the top five schools in Swindon to go through to an U11’s Tournament to also be held in Swindon. Peatmoor took part in this festival and won all of their matches which meant they had made it through to the tournament. The squad was made up of ten children and they were; Luke Matthews, Keegan Lane, Jackson Price, George Russ; Hannah Curtis; Bethani Crouch, Tom Sewell, Sam Orchard, Poppy Gibson and Freyja Stevens. All of the children were excited to have made it through to the tournament and their hopes were high. The children showed great team spirit and worked as a fantastic team showing off their skills.

Peatmoor's road to the Wiltshire Youth Games

After we won the Swindon U11’s Hockey Tournament we went on to play in the Wiltshire Youth Games at Devizes Leisure Centre. Our squad was made up of:
  • Luke Matthews (Captain)
  • George Russ
  • Jackson Price
  • Keegan Lane (Goalie)
  • Hannah Curtis
  • Bethani Crouch
  • Freyja Stevens
  • Poppy Gibson
  • Tom Sewell
  • Sam Orchard
  • Miss Kidd (Team Manager)
This involved teams from all over Wiltshire and there were nine teams involved altogether in the tournament.
We were placed in Group A and these are the teams we had to play:

  • Broadchalke -Sailsbury
  • Redlands - Chippenham
  • Kennet Valley - Marlborough
  • Minster – Warminster

Peatmoor's road to the Wiltshire Youth GamesWe got off to a brilliant start by beating Broadchalke with two individual goals by Jackson and Luke and some super defending by George and Freyja.
Our next match was against Kennet Valley. This was quite a tough match but we kept a clean sheet again and managed to win by 1 goal to nil. Keegan made some amazing saves as goalkeeper.
We were feeling quite confident going into our next match, although we knew we were up against it, as Minster were the only other team to win any of their games. We started off well, taking the lead early on in the match with a brilliant passing move from Luke to George and then an extraordinary goal by Jackson. We went on to win the match 2-0.
By this point in the tournament we found out that we were top of our group, having won all of our matches so far. We were the only team in both groups to achieve this feat.
We then had to play our final group match. This was our toughest test of the tournament so far. We managed to score early on with a great goal by Jackson yet again, pushing it past the defender and slotting it into the bottom corner. Redlands bounced back though and scored very quickly afterwards. We had to keep our cool and keep our heads up as we were determined to make it to the final. We battled hard and scored two more amazing goals to clinch the match. Jackson scored a hatrick and was our hero in this match.

Peatmoor's road to the Wiltshire Youth GamesWe were ecstatic to find out we had made it through to the finals. We found out that we would be facing Abbey Meads yet again!! We had an anxious wait for the finals and we all felt a mixture of excitement and nerves as we really wanted to clinch the title. It was a tough match and Abbey Meads put up a brave fight. We eventually managed to score the goal that won us the match. There were an anxious few minutes near the end of the match when Abbey Meads hit a great strike that came off the post – all the Peatmoor supporters and their manager Miss Kidd  breathed a sigh of relief as George eventually managed to clear the ball up the pitch.
Then the final whistle blew and the victory was ours.
We were so overjoyed at our achievement. We couldn’t believe that we had won all of our matches and that we had only conceded a single goal!!

We are now the hockey champions in both Swindon and Wiltshire.
We managed to do the double!!
